Custom Laravel apps built around your workflow, not around a SaaS limitation.
Bespoke Laravel applications engineered for businesses that have outgrown SaaS, off the shelf, or low code platforms. End to end discovery, architecture, full stack engineering, integrations, and post launch iteration. Built around how your team actually works, not how a generic vendor decided you should.
- 1,300+ custom Laravel applications shipped since 2007
- Workflow first design, then engineering, not the other way around
- Source code ownership and IP from commit one, NDA signed before scoping
- Fixed Price, Dedicated Developer, or Time and Material engagement models
Software shaped to your business.
Custom Laravel development, in plain terms.
Laravel custom development is the engineering work of building a bespoke application from the ground up on the Laravel PHP framework, designed around your exact business workflows rather than fitting your business into a pre built SaaS or off the shelf product. Custom development covers discovery, architecture, full stack engineering, integrations, deployment, and ongoing iteration.
The honest summary: custom is the right call when generic tools cannot model your business, when compliance demands full ownership of the codebase, or when your competitive advantage is in the software itself. We have shipped 1,300 plus custom Laravel applications since 2007 across fintech, healthcare, logistics, eCommerce, real estate, and B2B SaaS. The discipline we bring is workflow first design (figuring out what the application should do before deciding how to build it), then engineering, not the other way around.
Signals you should choose custom over SaaS.
Custom development is not always the right answer. For many businesses, off the shelf SaaS is the better path. Custom is the right call when generic tools have a ceiling that hurts your business. If three or more of these apply, custom development is likely worth the investment.
Your workflows are core to your competitive advantage and you cannot afford to be limited by what a SaaS vendor decides to ship next. SaaS subscription costs exceed $50,000 per year and would do so for the foreseeable future. You need data sovereignty for compliance reasons (HIPAA, PCI, ISO 27001) that SaaS cannot guarantee. You need integrations with internal systems that no SaaS vendor will build for you. You have outgrown a low code platform and the workarounds are now costing more than a proper build. Your business has workflows the SaaS world has not heard of because they emerged from your specific market. You need full control of the data model for analytics, reporting, or product development reasons.
Both have a place. Here is when each wins.
We are an engineering firm, so the honest answer is not always "build custom." Sometimes SaaS is the smarter call. Here is how we draw the line for our clients.
When custom is the right call
Your business is too specific for generic tools, your workflows are a source of competitive advantage, or compliance and data sovereignty demand full ownership of the codebase.
Best for
- Workflows that are core competitive advantage
- Compliance grade applications (HIPAA, PCI, ISO 27001)
- Businesses where software is the product
- SaaS subscriptions exceeding $50K per year
- Complex integrations with internal or legacy systems
- Long term ownership of data and architecture
When SaaS is the right call
Your workflows are standard enough that a generic tool models them well, the SaaS subscription is genuinely cheaper than building, and you do not need integrations or workflows the vendor cannot ship.
Best for
- Standard CRM, accounting, payroll, expense management
- Marketing automation and email campaigns
- Customer support helpdesks
- HR and recruiting workflows
- Small teams with limited engineering resources
- Use cases where time to value matters more than ownership
The honest rule: custom wins when the software itself is part of how you differentiate, when you have outgrown the SaaS limits, or when compliance demands ownership. SaaS wins when the workflow is genuinely commodified and the vendor is already solving the problem better than you would. We help clients make this decision honestly, even when it means recommending they stay on SaaS for another year before commissioning a custom build.

Custom logistics platform replacing 4 SaaS tools and 11 spreadsheets in seven months
"We had a tangle of four SaaS tools and eleven spreadsheets running parts of our logistics operation. Acquaint mapped every workflow, designed a single Laravel application around them, and replaced the entire stack in seven months. The operations team now has one place to work, and we saved roughly $80,000 per year in SaaS subscriptions alone."
A growing UK logistics company served 200 plus enterprise clients with a patchwork of four SaaS tools (CRM, fleet management, customer portal, ticketing) and eleven internal spreadsheets. Operations staff had to copy data between systems daily, partner deliveries were missed because the ticketing system did not talk to fleet management, and reporting required weekly manual reconciliation. The company had outgrown the SaaS limits but each individual tool was too cheap to obviously justify replacing. Combined SaaS spend was approaching $80,000 per year with no path to reduce it.
Seven month custom build on Laravel 11 with Livewire 3 for the operations team, Inertia plus React for the customer portal, and Filament for the admin. The discovery sprint mapped 47 workflows across the four SaaS tools and reduced them to 23 by removing duplication. Custom workflow engine handled multi step approvals, role based routing, and time based escalations. Stripe Connect integration for partner payouts replaced a separate accounting workflow. Real time fleet location through a partner GPS provider replaced the standalone fleet management SaaS. SAML SSO through Azure AD covered the existing employee directory. Phased rollout retired the SaaS tools one by one over the final two months, with operations staff fully on the new platform within 30 days of go live.

What is a Laravel web application?
A Laravel web application is a server rendered or hybrid web app built using the Laravel PHP framework. It can serve interactive dashboards, multi tenant SaaS products, customer portals, internal business systems, marketplace platforms, or anything that needs structured server side logic with a polished user interface. Laravel handles routing, database access, authentication, queues, real time events, and testing out of the box, so engineering teams ship faster than writing raw PHP and end up with code that is much easier to maintain over the years.
-
How long does it take to build a web application with Laravel?
A focused MVP usually ships in 6 to 10 weeks with two engineers. A mid sized business application with several modules, third party integrations, and a polished admin lands in 3 to 5 months. Enterprise web platforms with multi tenancy, compliance work, and heavy custom logic typically run 6 to 12 months. The timeline depends on feature scope, decision speed, and how complete the specification is on day one. We share a week by week estimate after the discovery call.
-
What types of web apps can be built with Laravel?
Almost any server backed web product. The common types we ship are multi tenant SaaS platforms, internal business systems, customer portals, marketplace and listing platforms, content management systems, fintech and payment backends, learning platforms, healthcare and telehealth tools, real time dashboards, and APIs that power mobile apps. Laravel scales from a single founder MVP all the way to enterprise grade systems running across multiple servers.
-
Is Laravel suitable for large web applications?
Yes. Laravel is used in production by FedEx, Disney Hotstar, BBC, Razorpay, and Pfizer, all of which run very large web applications. For scale, we use queue workers with Horizon, Redis caching, read replicas, horizontal scaling on Forge or Vapor, and asynchronous job processing. We have shipped Laravel platforms serving 40,000 plus concurrent users and 80,000 plus loan applications per month on a single architecture.
-
Does Laravel work for real time web applications?
Absolutely. Laravel ships with native real time support through Reverb (the official WebSocket server), broadcasting events through Pusher or Ably, and Livewire 3 for reactive UI without a separate SPA. Common real time features we build include live notifications, collaborative dashboards, chat, live order tracking, and presence indicators. For deeper real time work we pair Laravel with Livewire and Alpine.js. More on our Livewire development page.
-
How much does Laravel web application development cost?
A focused Laravel web app MVP starts around $12,000 to $20,000. Most mid sized business apps land between $30,000 and $90,000. Enterprise platforms with multi tenancy, compliance, and integrations typically run $80,000 to $250,000. Dedicated Laravel developers at Acquaint Softtech start at $22 per hour or $3,200 per month full time. A full breakdown sits on our Laravel development cost page.
-
How do you scale a Laravel web application?
Scaling Laravel is well understood. We profile bottlenecks with Telescope and Pulse, move heavy work to queues processed by Horizon, cache aggressively with Redis, introduce read replicas for the database, and horizontally scale the application layer through Forge or Vapor. For very large workloads we add CDN caching, edge functions, and asynchronous event driven flows. We have taken Laravel applications from a 12 second cold start to sub second response times in three sprints.
-
Web application vs website in Laravel, what is the difference?
A website is mostly informational with limited interactivity. A web application has logged in users, data that persists, business logic, and workflows. Both can be built with Laravel, but a web application uses Laravel's full strength (authentication, authorisation, database modelling, queues, events, real time, testing) while a website often runs on a much lighter setup. If you log in, perform actions, and the system remembers state, you are looking at a web application.
-
Do you build greenfield web apps or also rebuild existing ones?
Both. Roughly 60 percent of our Laravel work is greenfield, where we take a fresh idea or specification and ship the first production version. The other 40 percent is replatform work, where we modernise legacy PHP or migrate from CodeIgniter, WordPress, or older Laravel versions. For replatform projects we maintain feature parity, run shadow testing, and cut over with zero data loss. More on our migration services page.
